Housing & Homelessness
Joy believes that we all deserve equitable access to housing. She has seen first hand how housing insecurity affects family, friends, and neighbors. High housing costs are contributing to increased cases of homelessness and service providers are already under-resourced and in high demand. Joy will build on her experience as Community Outreach Specialist for Shared Housing Services where she helps Pierce county residents avoid housing instability. This innovative and increasingly popular option is helping to ensure people in need are connected to the available housing stock by way of a Home Provider renting an empty room in their house.
She will champion smart development in our community to ensure there are affordable housing options for individuals and families from all walks of life. Not only is it the right thing to do, it’s the financially responsible thing for our state budget. By starting a collaborative discussion between public and private entities, businesses, local service providers, and other stakeholders Joy will bring fresh solutions to the table to address the housing challenges in our region.
